Who is Anwar ul Haq Kakar?

Hey there, something pretty interesting happened over the weekend in Pakistan's political landscape. They went with a bit of an underdog choice for caretaker prime minister – Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, all the way from Balochistan. It's a bit of a wild ride as Pakistan's been dealing with some pretty turbulent times, including their star opposition figure, Imran Khan, being behind bars.

So, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar got the official thumbs-up from President Arif Alvi, with both the outgoing coalition led by Shehbaz Sharif and the opposition leader Raja Riaz Ahmad giving their blessings. Kakar, at the ripe age of 52, is taking the reins until Pakistan's next elections, which were initially set for November but might get pushed to next year.

Now, let's get to know Kakar a bit better, shall we? He landed the role of an independent senator from Balochistan back in 2018, and he's in it for the long haul – his term runs all the way until March 2024. Plus, he's a multitasker, holding the chair for the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, along with being part of various other committees, including Business Advisory, Finance and Revenue, Foreign Affairs, and Science and Technology. Oh, and he's repping the Balochistan Awami Party in the Senate.

What's cool is that he's quite the language guru, speaking not just English and Urdu, but also Persian, Pushto, Balochi, and Brahvi. Impressive, right?

And here's the best part – Kakar's appointment got a big thumbs-up from major Pakistani political parties. It looks like they're all on board with him navigating the ship through these interesting waters. Let's see how this adventure unfolds.
